My view (for what it's worth)

The Idaho Statesman said it best this morning:

"[Larry Craig
] is a lame-duck senator with a tarnished reputation who has been shunned by Senate colleagues and stripped of his leadership positions."

A little over a month ago our Idaho Senator said it would be unfair for him to continue in his Senate seat. He also said there would be too many distractions raised by the fuss. In a non-surprising move, Craig now seems to determined to exonerate himself and rescue his career. To play out the possibility to the fullest, he wants to be our Senator up to the last possible minute, which unfortunately doesn't happen until the end of next year. What fun Jay Leno and others will have with Larry for fifteen months!

Sounds like someone got his ear and said, "Larry, you're a good guy deep down. You've been a US Senator for most of three terms. You've got seniority on important committees. You're too valuable to Idaho to walk away from your job."

That sounded so good. "I'm too valuable to walk away..." "I must save my battered reputation." "Idaho needs me."

So he changed his mind. Changed his decision. Changed his perspective on his future. And changed the attitude of Idaho's voters.

Speculation is bubbling that Craig will have the gall to run for another six-year term in the Senate next year.
Idahoans I've talked to believe he's Mormon but prefers being called a Methodist because it sets better on the national political scene. Maybe he'll change his public religious affiliation from Methodist to Mormon and garner votes that way.

It will be interesting. Distracting, unhelpful, and sad. But interesting.
