No, Larry! Not now!

We didn't need to find out today that Larry Craig pleaded guilty to charges of lewd conduct for something silly he did in a Minnesota men's restroom. But we did. The news is on all the channels. The only thing I haven't seen is the Idaho Senator showing any remorse. I hope he's embarrassed. I hope he'll step down. Now.

I don't know what Sen. Craig did and wouldn't describe it here if I did, but to me it's just another sign that something is wrong with the part of the brain that deals with common sense in the minds of too many of our politicians.

That's why Attorney General Alberto Gonzales resigned from office. He let his political loyalties run ahead of his common sense.

Maybe we can remember this day in August 2007 as the day we all realized that common sense can be kicked around if there's a reward for doing so.

I take leave of common sense every now and then myself. Remind me not to hold public office...
